Range Rover Velar, A Worthy and Stylish British Alternative to its Counterparts

Range Rover Velar, A Worthy and Stylish British Alternative to its Counterparts

A Review of Range Rover Velar

Range Rover Velar furnishes the specific Land Rover clientele that demands a vehicle above the capabilities of Range Rover Evoque and thinks that Range Rover Sport is a bit too much and a bit too old-fashioned for them. If we look closely and deeply into the structure of the Range Rover Velar then it’s not hard to see that this is Land Rover’s attempt to provide a 4WD SUV that exhibits the characteristics of a car.

The chassis platform that it is based upon is the same that is used for Jaguar XE and Jaguar XF. Its astute styling and relaxed outlook confirm that this is the most road-biased Range Rover ever to be made. It is the most sophisticated and technology-driven Range Rover as well. However, do not take it as a slouch when it comes to off-roading. This tech-heavy Goliath has ever clever technology-driven driver’s help at its disposal to deal with any sort of terrain.

Exterior Styling

The introduction of Velar in 2018 turned the style and design of the Range Rover line-up at its head and it continues to do so to maintain the astronomical standards it once set. Such was the authenticity of its style characteristics that its siblings in the Range Rover line-up borrowed the style ques from Velar to boost their overall style.

Flowing, classy, and minimal is the style theme adopted for this elite version of Range Rover. The slippery silhouette, reclining roofline, and pinched tail hint at the performance that is hidden under this huge frame.

It has a chiseled and powerful front end complete with huge air vents Infront of the wheel arches for effective aerodynamics. The side profile is clean and classy and the look is completed with black alloys and a matching black roof with glass finishing. Lifted rear and pinched back with futuristic taillights complete the look.

Plush Interior

Let us be very clear, if you are looking for the Range Rover trademark interior then entry-level models are not going to cut it for you. You do not get leather seats or satellite navigation as standard. So, if you want all the bells and whistles in your interior then choose a higher trim.

The real essence of the interior is minimalistic brilliance. Without a doubt, it is one of the most spectacular interiors ever to be produced by a British brand.

Starting with the dashboard, you get clean lines and no-nonsense leathered-up surfaces with an expensive feel. The elephant in the room is the introduction of dual-screen infotainment and command system. The upper screen deals with navigation, and entertainment and configures many car functions and features. The lower screen handles climate control and seat heating. There are plenty of controls available on the steering wheel to make life easier for the driver.

Because of the minimalistic design, the cabin feels spacious and the seats are super comfortable to allow you to travel across the country with ease. You are provided with enough head and legroom space within the cabin and there is plenty of room for luggage in the boot.

Impressive Engine Line up

Range Rover Velar owes a lot of its success to the robust and meticulously made diesel and petrol engines that powered them for years. Land Rover Range Rover Velar was introduced in 2017 and a range of engines was introduced.

The diesel engine lineup started with Range Rover 204DTA Diesel Engine capable of producing 177 bhp and 430 Nm of torque. Another more powerful engine was with the same displacement of 2.0-Liter but produced 237 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. For more power, there was a 3.0-Liter twin-turbo diesel that produced 296 hp with a massive 700 Nm of torque.

A modern twin turbo 3.0-Liter diesel engine was introduced that was capable of churning out 271 hp and 625 Nm of torque. 2020 saw a 3.0-Liter turbo diesel engine producing the magical figure of 300 hp and 650 Nm of torque.

There was a range of petrol engines was introduced as well. Entry level started with a 2.0-Liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 247 bhp and 365 Nm of torque. A better-equipped twin-turbocharged engine with the same displacement produced 296 bhp with 400 Nm of torque. A 3.0-Liter supercharged V6 was introduced that could produce 375 bhp and 450 Nm of torque.

2020 saw some major upgrades in the petrol engine lineup as a 2.0-Liter petrol engine was introduced producing 398 bhp and 640 Nm of torque. A 3.0-Liter turbocharged engine was introduced in 2021 churning out 395 bhp and 550 Nm of torque.

An all-powerful 5.0-Liter supercharged V8 engine was introduced that can let you enjoy all 542 bhp and 680 Nm of torque.

Range Rover Velar P400e comes with a hybrid and plugin powertrain. It comes with a 300 bhp four-cylinder engine coupled with a 17.1 kW battery pack. This takes its hp count to 480 and 0-60 mph time in mere 5 seconds while emitting minimal CO2 emissions.

Final Words

The only thing that is worth bothering when in possession of a Range Rover Velar is the fuel economy. As long as you are driving a diesel or plug-in hybrid, you should be fine. Range RoverVelar beats the main rivals on price as well and in some cases returns better fuel economy too.

Range Rover Velar holds excellent value for the first few years and has tremendous resale value. You can enjoy the first few years without dropping too much value. Range Rover as a brand is not known for its reliability and Velar is no exception either. Out of 30 different brands survey in What Car? Reliability Survey, Land Rover came a disappointing 29th. So, do expect problems and workshop trips but one thing is certain. It is hard to match the badge value, refined ride quality, and unmistakable beauty in design when you won and drive one.
